All information is correct for a UK passport holder in September 2018.
I was running out of time to get my tourist visa turned into a residence visa. Instead of going through the process of leaving the country just to come back again I decided to see whether I could extend my tourist visa for another month – and you can, but only once! This gives me enough time to complete the whole visa application process.
You will need:
- Passport with entry stamp
- Extra passport photograph of yourself
- 752 AED (there are cash machines in the typing center)
- 1 or 2 hours of your time
I had to travel to the GDFRA (General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs – Abu Dhabi) on 19th Street to start the process.
Once in reception go through the door directly opposite behind reception on the left and follow the path around until you reach the typing center.
Inside the typing center take a ticket from the machine and wait to be seen. Once your number has been called head over to the desk and ask them to extend your tourist visa, they will type up the application form and take your money.
Then head back to reception and go into the customer happiness center on the right-hand side. Stand in the queue and when at the front show the paperwork and your passport. They will then give you a number and you can take a seat.
Once called you will need to show your documentation and passport, they will then add a sticker into the passport to show that you have extended for another month.
