The Flight to the Middle East

Another early start this morning that saw us up and in a taxi by 5am … I didn’t know this time existed before today!

Arriving at the airport the bags were checked in, a stressful process when you knew you were very close to being over the limit! We headed into the lounge as we were flying business class due to my husband’s new job paying for the tickets – thank you very much!

This is my first time flying business class (and probably the last time) so naturally was very excited! The Etihad lounge was beautiful and very close to the gate which calmed my pre-flight nerves considerably. The breakfast offering was delicious and settled down with a paper and a coffee to let the time go by before the flight.

With our speedy boarding, we were on the plane and in our comfy seats quickly and offered some complimentary Champagne before take-off… Fabulous! A few films, some lovely food and a quick nap and we had landed in Abu Dhabi Airport.

It is hot.

When I mean hot, I mean 35 Degrees Celsius at night hot. I’m not exactly sure what I expected when I agreed to move to the Middle East but here we are!

We then struggled to find our taxi as it wasn’t signposted particularly well but got there eventually. A short ride later we arrived at the Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan hotel our home for the next month.

Our room is lovely, on a high floor with a separate kitchen and living room, so we’ll have lots of space to live “normally” until we find an apartment. Viewings for apartments start tomorrow so I’ll let you know how we get on!
